The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008)

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is the third installment in The Mummy franchise, directed by Rob Cohen. This time, the action shifts from Egypt to ancient China, where a cursed Han emperor (played by Jet Li) is awakened and seeks to conquer the world with his terracotta army. Brendan Fraser returns as adventurer Rick O’Connell, but Rachel Weisz does not reprise her role, replaced by Maria Bello as Evelyn. The story introduces their grown-up son, Alex, who discovers the tomb and inadvertently helps unleash the Dragon Emperor. The film delivers plenty of action, CGI-heavy battles, and mythical elements, including yetis and magical resurrection. However, it lacks the charm and heart of the earlier films. Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh add star power, but their talents feel underused in a script that leans more on spectacle than character depth. Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2.5/5) – Entertaining in parts, but a weaker sequel with forced humor, average storytelling, and wasted potential from its legendary cast.
